RIGHT OF A MARRIED PERSON TO THE DIGNITY OF HER HUMAN PERSON

Mrs. Mayowa Abeeb Olawale V. Mr. Abeeb Nathan Olawale (Pet/238/19)

WHETHER VIOLENCE BY AN ABUSIVE HUSBAND WILL NOT BE A GOOD GROUND TO DISSOLVE A MARRIAGE UPON A PETITION BROUGHT BY THE WIFE.

Mrs. Mayowa and Mr. Abeeb contracted a statutory marriage on December 2, 2006 and have an 11-year-old daughter. Mrs. Mayowa’s grouse was that Mr. Abeeb, her husband, was unfaithful to her and flirts around with other women. He would subject her to emotional torture, seized the car that her father bought for her as a wedding gift and would not care for her. The husband would steal her ATM card and use it to withdraw money from her account. She and their daughter were also abandoned for three years preceding her petition. Mr. Abeeb would even steal her jewelleries, properties and other valuables. It was theses frustrations that led Lawyers Alert to file a petition for divorce at High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

OUTCOME

The case had suffered a lot of back and forth brought about by the outbreak of COVID 19. Same is being resuscitated and there would be further updates.
